May. 4th, 2010 @ 10:37 pm Balloons
Your balloons are mylar, multicolored, ribbons,
floating above your head in celebration.

Mine are thought
balloons.

Mar. 16th, 2010 @ 11:14 pm How I think about your awesomesauce before I go to bed and end up unable to sleep due to excitement.
I don't have the words
to go to bed.

My sleeps are expired
tickets, that I dig from
an old shoebox that used to hide
our maps and blessings.
Now they're tacked to the wall
above my bed where
My sleeps should be spent.

My fingers are ringing.

Since I haven't opened my eyes yet
my empirical scene is under your enchantment
The fairness of our atmosphere is like babyskin
Thank you for finding this place
with all its whispering winds working waves
into the sea green banks
I know this tree
planted three decades earlier
when I met you
three years ago.
The designs etched into its bark are rough
in parts
our time
of parts
left such gnarled evidence
But oak and ocean breeze are impenetrable
And the leaves create lovely cover
for the lovers underneath.

My chest cavity feels like it contains 48psi of helium
and extends from here to Nantucket. I want to
use that air to lift me over the Atlantic
but my shoes are tied to paint-splattered anchors
and I can't kick them off.

I have six thousand miles of rope
between her and me,
and we clothesline tall buildings
when we go about our daily endeavors.

I'm laying bricks to slacken the line
and painting the median with swirls.
A century ago, Chinamen built our rails,
but when I lost my ring, they tore up the tracks.

My gloves are worn, earning their keep.

She is the coal in my furnace.
Under her skin hides diamonds.

Writing poetry with question
marks
reads like squeaky styrofoam.

Those who read, don't
care if your words won awards--
it's just applause from people
who would clap at anything.

Poems aren't
important.
Breathing isn't either.

If your voice
were audible,
I'd invest in better headphones.

My books are open
to new inspiration.

there are points
of light
that shine at night
which prick
the unprepared skin

points
that bite
are points that might become
assimilated
into this skin when ready

the bones that break
and muscles make
of a better body
of a man

but the bones do shake
and nails will rake
across flesh full of cushion

the points remind
the mind rewind
to the battles of a callow youth.

I ran out of today,
so I'm guzzling some yesterday
in hopes it'll fill me up.

Jack broke the sky.

Barking his lips off the maw
at the witnesses
and panting
at the clamwater air, nearly suffocating him.

Jack's energy, spent, he epicly WOOFED
out the screen door, into the atmosphere
tickling the cloud
losing its bladder
dropping upon us
and
then came the sparky bowling balls out the sky.

I believe not in
rhyme.meter.discipline.doctrine.
black and white exist
only in contrast
DO: the only splash
to start the tides of the ocean.
INTENT: the only word
to describe what does and does and does
no knots. do nuts. the hole
doesn't exist, it's just a shape
wrapped around nothing.

Author carries no heavy hands
instead, light feet carry
a tune, projected timespace
matters of little consequence and bigger interest
to those with the gift of Gabriel to speak of it

Make words with mouths wide open
up the borders and know no wall
eyes like strong fish swimming
lee-ward through a different river by moment
Even unaware, you're still perfect.

long, deliberate pulls from this glass of wine are
perfect return-fire against the stuttering slurred speech
that last night, managed to console nobody
in the aftermath of the asthma attack
that cost a boy his life.

rest in peace.
